, [00:00:00] have you ever had this feeling that you're going a hundred miles per hour, the steering wheels jammed, the brakes are out, and you're heading towards a financial cliff?
You have no idea if you're gonna make it to the other side. What happens if you don't or if you do make it to the other side, how you're possibly going to exciting, right. Again, I don't know about you, but I've experienced these moments multiple times in my life. I guess it's part of the non-traditional routes I've taken.
The path of surrender, the path of listening to what's emerging moment by moment rather than trying to control and direct, but even for those who have navigated more traditional pathways. I mean, I've supported countless clients experiencing the same family members as well. These are individuals who have attempted to use a mind to try to control and anticipate every next step.
And when life isn't going as planned, they freak out naturally. I mean, who wouldn't? Their nervous system is a wreck. They're in absolute panic mode. But one thing I've come to learn is that somehow, some way life always shows up, even for those who don't believe it will. [00:01:00] Even for those who don't trust it will, even for those whose nervous system is going haywire, somehow some way, life finds a way.
It's an incredible feeling, a miraculous feeling, really like, whoa, where did that come from? How did that just happen? Now, as someone who has engaged in deep spiritual practices like meditation and prayer for the past 17 years, being in the car with the steering wheel jammed and the breaks out triggers little in my nervous system these days.
Now, not nothing. There's still a part of my mind that says, oh boy, how is this all gonna work out? But the predominant experience within me is that of absolute trust and curiosity. I I know this is all going to be fine and work out. I'm fascinated to find out how. What's also fascinating to me is the idea of can we all come from this place of deep trust?
A trust so deep that you recalibrate your nervous system to not be so reactive. To perhaps even be calm in the midst of the storm, and if we [00:02:00] can, what is needed? For me, my new default is that of trust and wonder, but it wasn't always like that. What helped me above all were some key transformative practices.
So if you're going through one of these moments in your life right now where you're uncertain as to how this is all going to turn out. I invite you to engage in this practice. And by the way, we're all in this moment right now. The world is in chaos. There's so many things that are uncertain about what's next and how this is all going to turn out.
So this is really an invitation to all of us. So the first step for me is always to slow down, to take a breath or 10 or 20 or a hundred, however many are needed, and simply reconnect to that feeling of being here. Now, what does it feel like to be in my body right now? What is the state of my nervous system?
Where am I gripping and holding on? Can I soften here? And from there, moving my energy from my [00:03:00] head where the chaos lives down into my spiritual heart, the core of my body, deep belly breaths, and then release, release the tension, the holding release, the grip of trying to figure anything out or manage anything.
I allow myself to really settle, recognizing that the mind may still be active, that's fine. I let it do its thing. Then I connect with God within myself. You can label this presence, life, the universe, spirit, really any label that works for you. The idea here is to turn your will over to a higher power, recognizing that there's a greater unfolding happening beyond what the conscious mind can grasp.
I then communicate with that higher power. I recognize this moment is here for a reason. I know no matter what, I can handle this, and I ask, please help me get out of my own way so that I can allow what needs to happen to happen. Please illuminate the path forward.
I cannot do this alone. I may repeat a version of these statements a few times, and then I just sit [00:04:00] without expecting an answer or a clear way forward. I just sit and allow this moment to be as it is, and then finally I ask myself, what is under my control?
Who can I speak with? What actions need to be taken? What is being asked of me in this moment? And this is how brick by brick, the path forward begins to appear. A runway emerges and what seemed like a cliff heading into an abyss turns into a new world of possibilities ahead. Something unexpected emerges.
I get a phone call, an email, an invitation. Like I said, something miraculous happens. Now the final piece of the puzzle is when that road finally does appear, when the steering wheel and brakes are back and you have quote, unquote, control over the vehicle.
Again, remember this moment that just passed, carve it into your mind and into your being. Not the circumstance necessarily, but the results. A moment ago, you were freaking out feeling like you were heading towards a cliff, like the world was ending, and look how life showed up. Look at [00:05:00] how it showed up. In a way that you could never have anticipated, in a way that you could never have imagined.
Can you remember this? Next time you find yourself in a similar situation, a situation where the road ahead isn't clear? This is how you begin to recalibrate your nervous system and forge the wisdom that will help you and those you love, navigate whatever challenges you may face in the future. Because one thing is true, we are entering into a world that is being greatly disrupted.
A world where the path forward won't be clear for. Any of us really, folks will be displaced from jobs. Economies will evolve away from needing humans to fulfill roles. It's going to get really tricky, but can we still trust?
Can we still remain calm and deeply rooted to something deeper within ourselves? Because if we do, we then partner with life to take us into our next stage of evolution as human beings collectively.
